Baseball Proves They Can Compete with Conference’s Best

“Pitching, defense, and close games continue to define the first half of our season,” said Coach Miller when referencing the Ponies’ four-game stretch that featured 7-6 and 3-2 wins over Ellsworth and MDI, as well as two losses to second-ranked Old Town–one in extra innings and the other by a single run. “[Through it all,] we found out that we could compete and give ourselves a chance to win against the top teams in our conference.”

Through eight games, the Ponies are 5-3 and sit eighth in the Class B North heal point standings–their only three losses coming from Old Town and Hermon, the conference’s top-ranked teams.

On May 9, the Foxcroft Ponies left the city of Old Town victorious, defeating the Coyotes 5-0. Madison Fadley, Lexi Raymond, and Alice Russo all picked up singles victories while the teams of Elena Russo-Sophia Kurzius and Hannah Vainio-Maria Cedeno won their doubles matches.

After their win in Old Town, the Ponies improved to 3-5 and remain in the Class B North playoff picture.

Church and Allen Continue to Shine on the Mound for Foxcroft Baseball

Through four games, senior Nate Church has pitched 22 innings, allowed just 13 hits, and posted an impressive 1.27 ERA for the Ponies. Most impressively, his stats reflect his work against one of the toughest lineups in Class B North–Old Town, who he has faced twice.

Senior Noah Allen, who transferred to Foxcroft Academy in the fall, is proving to be an impressive pitcher for the Pony baseball team as well, as he has pitched 20 innings, allowed just 11 hits, and posted a 1.40 ERA.

piquette track shadesSenior Gabe Piquette Breaks 5:00, Qualifies in Three Events

First-team all-conference cross-country runner Gabe Piquette is proving this outdoor track season that he also has what it takes for success on the oval. Over the course of two meets, Piquette has shattered several personal bests to qualify for the Large School PVC Conference Meet in three events. At home on April 30, Piquette destroyed the five-minute barrier in the 1600, running 4:53, his first time sub-5. At the Ponies’ next competition in Hampden, Piquette backed up his previous stellar performance with yet another, running a PR of 2:10 in the 800 and a PVC-qualifying 11:17 in 3200-meter run.

Piquette joins a talented group of Foxcroft athletes–Cooper Nelson, Hunter Smith, Zach Caron, and Evan Chadbourne–who have qualified for PVCs in three or more events.
